SP WaveBoard does both and then some...Building on those to powerful features, SP WaveBoard turns any SharePoint discussion list into a email list sever, allowing for the conversation to happen via email and through your SharePoint site. All messages are displayed on the SharePoint discussion list as a threaded conversation.

How SP WaveBoard Works

Once installed, SP WaveBoard can be activated on any Discussion List in a SharePoint 2010 or 2007 site, giving you the flexibility to decide which lists will operate like an email List Server. With SP WaveBoard enabled you can give your list it own email address (i.e. SharePointGovernance@yoursite.com). Subscribers to the discussion list will be able to send emails to that address which will be posted to the SharePoint Discussion List and emailed out to the other subscribers based on their notification preferences (immediate, daily digest, weekly digest). Subscribers can also create and respond to topics in the Discussion List using the SharePoint interface as an alternative to emails providing users the flexibility to communicate the way they want to communicate.
